Below are the most common mechanical symptoms we see on e-bikes brought to us. We don’t do electrical or electronics repair.
01from 35 €
E-bike motor hums
WhyMost often the culprits are worn hub bearings or gear parts. Sometimes the hum has simpler causes: a pad rubbing against the rotor or a wheel that isn’t installed properly.
Check it yourselfLift the wheel and spin it by hand: see whether the pad touches the rotor and whether you feel any tight spots.
What we doWe remove the wheel with the motor, rebuild the hub, replace the bearings and worn parts, lubricate everything and fit it back.

Motor knocks or clicks when pedalling
WhyParts inside the motor can wear out or teeth can break, causing knocking or slipping. Sometimes a loose axle nut is to blame.
Check it yourselfCheck that the axle nuts haven’t come loose. If the noise is only heard under load, don’t ride and take it to a workshop.
What we doWe rebuild the motor and replace faulty parts and bearings. Which parts are needed becomes clear once we inspect the motor in the workshop.
03from 8 €
E-bike brakes weakly
WhyA heavier bike needs more braking force, so the pads wear faster. Other causes: contaminated rotors, air bubbles in a hydraulic brake, or worn rotors.
Check it yourselfIf the brakes are weak, don’t ride and take the bike to a workshop. Don’t touch the rotors with your fingers and don’t lubricate them.
What we doWe replace the pads, clean or replace the rotors, bleed the hydraulic brake and adjust it. More on this on the brake repair page.

Chain skips, gears slip
WhyBecause of the higher load, the chain and sprockets usually wear faster. A worn chain skips on a new sprocket, and an old sprocket can’t hold a new chain properly.
Check it yourselfSee whether the chain is dry and dirty, and read our chain care guide.
What we doWe replace the chain and, if needed, the cassette, then adjust the gear shifting.
05from 8 €
Creaking bearings or handlebar
WhyCreaking is usually caused by dried-out or dirty bearings: in the wheels, the headset or the bottom bracket. The extra weight of an e-bike puts more load on the bearings.
Check it yourselfSqueeze the front brake and rock the bike forward and back. If the handlebar feels loose, the headset bearings have come loose. Don’t overtighten by force.
What we doWe take apart, clean, grease or replace the bearings and adjust them. If parts are worn, we suggest replacing them.

Flat tyre on a hub motor wheel
WhyOn an e-bike, a wheel with a hub motor is heavier, and removing and refitting it takes care, which is why many people bring it to the workshop.
Check it yourselfCheck the pressure against the range printed on the tyre sidewall. More in the tyre pressure guide.
What we doWe carefully remove the wheel, replace the inner tube or tyre, then refit and secure the wheel. In season, we do urgent tyre changes straight away, with no queue.
078–15 €
Wheel wobbles or spokes have come loose
WhyA heavy bike puts more load on the spokes, so the wheel can go out of true, a spoke can break or the rim can buckle.
Check it yourselfSpin the wheel and see whether the gap at the brake pads or frame keeps changing.
What we doWe true the wheel, replace spokes, rebuild the wheel or replace the rim. More on the wheel repair page.
08from 6 €
Gears don’t shift accurately
WhyStretched cables, a bent derailleur hanger or a worn chain. Sometimes the cause is a wheel that was fitted incorrectly after a repair.
Check it yourselfCheck that the cable housing isn’t pinched and isn’t damaged.
What we doWe adjust the derailleurs and replace cables, housings or the hanger. More on the gear adjustment page.
