Below are the most common handlebar and front-end symptoms and what they usually mean. We can determine the exact cause only after inspecting the scooter.

E-scooter handlebar wobbles
WhyMost often the steering column bearings have loosened, or the connection between the handlebar tube and the folding mechanism has worn loose. Sometimes a worn bracket or a loose bolt is to blame.
Check it yourselfStand the scooter on a level surface, squeeze the front brake and try to push it back and forth – if you feel a “knock” at the steering column, the bearings are loose. Also check that the folding latch isn’t loosening.
What we doWe adjust the steering bearings, tighten the connections and, if needed, replace the bearings or the handlebar tube. For Xiaomi scooters, handlebar tube wobble repair costs 25–35 €.

Scooter rattles while riding
WhyRattling is often caused by loose bolts, the fender bracket, the folding mechanism or a worn suspension. Less often, a loose wheel bearing.
Check it yourselfLook over all visible bolts and the fender, and wiggle them by hand. Pull the scooter by the handlebar and shake it – you can often find the source of the noise by its location. More on this in the article why a scooter squeaks or rattles.
What we doWe check and tighten all the joints, eliminate the cause, and if a part is worn out, we replace it.

Handlebar squeaks in turns
WhyDry or dirty steering column bearings, ingrained with dirt and moisture, and in winter also frozen water. A squeak without play usually means the bearings lack grease.
Check it yourselfWipe the dirt from around the steering column joint with a dry cloth. Don’t pressure-wash the scooter from below – water gets into the bearings.
What we doWe take the bearings apart, clean, grease and adjust them. If the bearings are already pitted or “skipping”, we replace them. Ninebot steering bearing adjustment – 5 €, fork bearing replacement – 15 €.
04from 15 €
Scooter wheel wobbles
WhyWorn wheel bearings, a loose axle or a loose fork mount. A wobbling front wheel can cause the handlebar to shake.
Check it yourselfLift the wheel off the ground and try to move it from side to side – you shouldn’t feel any play. Spin the wheel by hand: it should turn smoothly, without crunching. Don’t force bolts near the axle that are hard to reach.
What we doWe replace wheel bearings and axles and check the fork mount. Xiaomi rear wheel bearing replacement – 15 €, front – 35 €, Ninebot front bearings – 20 €, rear – 35 €.

Folding mechanism clicks or doesn’t lock
WhyThe folding system is worn, the thickened folding bolt is battered, or the latch is loose. The steering tube then „snaps” at the base, especially over potholes.
Check it yourselfFold and unfold the scooter, watching whether the latch locks all the way. If the handlebar moves even before you release the latch, don’t ride until the handlebar is locked, and see a mechanic.
What we doWe adjust or replace the folding mechanism and the folding bolt. Ninebot folding mechanism repair – 10 €, Xiaomi thickened bolt replacement – 10 €.

Latch or hook no longer holds
WhyA latch that is used constantly wears down, and the hook the handlebar clips onto can bend or break off. The folded scooter then no longer stays held together.
Check it yourselfInspect the latch and the hook – look for cracks and loose bolts.
What we doWe replace the latch or hook, and if the latch is just wobbly, adjusting it is often enough. Xiaomi latch wobble repair – 5 €, latch or hook replacement – 15 € each.

Fender rattles or bracket has broken off
WhyThin plastic cracks from vibration, the bracket works loose, and the upper bolts of the rear fender often come unscrewed or break off.
Check it yourselfCheck that the fender sits evenly and doesn’t touch the tire. If it rubs against the wheel, don’t ride – it could lock up.
What we doWe replace the fender, fit the bracket, and replace the upper bolts of the rear fender.
08from 15 €
Shock absorber knocks or is too soft
WhyThe shock absorber is worn, the lubrication has dried out, or the mounting bolts have come loose. The steering and the ride become unstable.
Check it yourselfPush the scooter forward and back and listen for knocking. Check the mounting points.
What we doWe inspect, lubricate and adjust the shock absorbers, and replace them if needed. In a full service, lubricating and adjusting the bearings and shock absorbers is already included.
